All schools want their students to succeed and lasting impressions can be made when effective changes are made at three principle levels- the school, the educators and the students. This online course explores strategies that can be implemented to bring about school improvements, improve student learning and facilitate development of teachers’ skills. Participants in this course are shown how to use 'Action Research' as a means of changing their practice and solving issues faced in their profession.
This is covered in SECTION A: Action Research for School Improvement, which explains how to use the action research tool as a school improvement approach as well as for individual professional development and to build strong professional learning communities.
SECTION B: Building School-wide Initiatives focuses on the positive impact of effective school-based initiatives on student learning. It equips teachers with the skills essential to planning and implementing initiatives in an organized, focused and inclusive way so as to raise levels of student achievement. Effective communication skills is the key indicator of a competent and resourceful teacher.
SECTION C: Public Speaking for Teachers focuses on a skill that every teacher must master to be effective leaders in the classroom, school and community. This course helps teachers gain confidence in public speaking communicate more effectively with students, parents and colleagues.

- Identify key features, definitions, history, benefits and types of action research.
- Explore possible focus areas and choose one action research project.
- Develop a research agenda and understand various data collection techniques to analyze data and draw conclusions.
- Use the Action Research Matrix to develop learning goals and short and long term plans.
As a result of successful participation in SECTION C, Public Speaking for Teachers, students should be able to:
- Define characteristics and benefits of school-wide initiatives.
- Plan and implement organized, focused, and inclusive School-wide Initiatives that enhance student achievement.
- Create a plan that is need-based and sustainable through time and across grade levels.
- Address the problems and myths associated with public speaking.
- Build skills and manage fears to become effective public speakers.
- Learn to communicate verbally and non-verbally while considering personal strengths and weaknesses.
- Experiment with media visual aids and content for presentations and speeches.
- Focus on the ethical considerations in different types of public speaking assignments.
After completing the course, you will be directed to the university for registration.
