How Do You Decide?

People are influenced by different things. Some are influenced by popular culture while others are influenced by family values. Some are influenced by media and others by specific people. Our influences impact the decisions we make.
It is normal and natural to be influenced, and sometimes even biased, in our decision making. What is key is to recognize the impact. When we realize what drives our decisions and actions, we are better able to make sound choices. As teachers, these insights enable us to be intentional in what we do. This understanding helps us make a better decision about which strategies we choose to use, which topic we choose to discuss in class, or even how we want to present a particular issue. It helps us to provide a better environment and learning experience to our students.
