Social Networking

Check Out the New Blog Social Networking

As technology innovations seem to be ever-growing, so does the use of social media in the classroom. While it may not be commonplace to have your students use Instagram or Snapchat to snap photos while in class, sites like Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest are being used in the classroom more frequently.

Years ago, if the teacher wanted to show a video relating to a topic in class, the teacher would have to locate that video and have it ready to play in class ahead of time. Now, many teachers use YouTube to show short educational video clips as the topic comes up in class.

And Pinterest? Arts and crafts projects or ideas on a new and creative way to teach the class a certain topic are available in masses. Just login, and you have an entire collection of new things to bring into the classroom, right at your fingertips.

Finally, Twitter? Twitter is being brought into the classroom as a way to have a group discussion without having to put yourself out there and raise your hand. The teacher will create a group on Twitter just for the class, and then during class discussions, everyone will pitch in their thoughts and ideas with a “tweet.”
