It’s the holiday season and there are so many things to spend money on. It’s also the time of the year when it can be hard to keep from indulging, splurging and celebrating. I realize, of course, that memorable celebrations are not equal to spending lots of money. Holidays are about creating memories and the best experiences in life can often be had for free.I came up with a list of ideas to consider in making the holiday even more meaningful and memorable, and I’d like to share them with you. Some of these ideas may not directly relate to celebrations, but aim to help me remember and reinforce the “feelings” of the season – love, kindness and generosity.

– Creating handmade cards.
– Converting children’s crafts, drawings, school work, and such into decorations.
– Celebrating traditions.
– Cooking and sharing meals with others.

– Spending time together as a family.
– Holding the door open for someone.
– Holding my tongue in a conversation.
– Buying the person in the car behind me a cup of coffee.

– Using someone’s name when speaking with them.
– Giving a gift…anonymously.
– Visiting someone who may not have much family or many friends.

What ideas should be added to this list and what commitments might you make to remember this holiday season?
