In the Folds of Origami

I was looking at some origami decorations yesterday. A few simple folds and twists, and a blank piece of paper becomes a beautiful object. All it needs is an imagination and a pair of skilled hands.
Aren’t children like that too? A blank piece of paper that is folded and worked on by parents, teachers and experiences they encounter. Sometimes, an incorrect fold is made, recognized and adjusted. As students spend time with us at school, we get the opportunity to make a couple of folds and influence learners in the right direction. It’s interesting to recognize that each of the students in our classrooms is like a work of “origami” and in the process of development. Each of them different, and at a different stage of growth.
It’s also important to remember, that kids are far more complex that origami. They don’t usually become the object that you may want them to become.. but grow towards becoming someone unique and special in their own way.
Was your own life molded or changed by a teacher? We’d love to hear your stories.
