A Letter From A Student To A Teacher

Dear Teacher,
I’m sick of being bored in math class. In class I enjoy finding the problems but, I don’t enjoy waiting for other students to figure out what X is. I’m not only speaking for myself but, for the more advanced students in class. Twenty five percent of the time we, are looking out the window, playing with our pens and pencils or, mulling over the fact that we know this lesson and want to move faster.
I guess one way to let you (the teacher) know that we are bored is to tell you straight or, the other way you would know is that you would notice that we have done all the example problems and are ready to the homework. You don’t always get what you want though. So, here we are easily passing all the quizzes and tests you hand out to us.
One way to solve this problem, I guess would be to put advanced students in advanced math. But, what about those schools that don’t/can’t have advanced math in their curriculum or, simply just don’t have enough room in the building. What do we do then?
My solution is that, you teachers move the advanced students to a new and more challenging topic, or give us harder questions on the same topic everyone is learning. Another way to solve this problem would be that teachers assign homework on online classes. These online classes would consist of harder topics for advanced students.
I don’t know if teachers will listen to my ideas and, they don’t have to. All I ask is that teachers give us advanced students a challenge. Help us learn and help us succeed.
Sincerely,
Alejandra
