Color in the Classroom

They say that the colors around us make an impact on our moods and emotions. While orange invokes excitement, plain white is said to be cold and dull.
In a classroom situation, its often much more than the color of the wall paint. We usually have bulletin boards, students’ artwork, furniture and other things that contribute to color in the room. And very often, while we take time to think about what the students are going to learn through what’s on the wall, we don’t take time to think about how the colors in the classroom create, enhance and off-set reactions.
This week, I’m taking a second look at the colors around me. What can I add or remove to increase productivity, inspire happiness and improve motivation? Changing the curtains, redoing the background of a bulletin board, or adding a tablecloth….brightening up the classroom for myself and students.
What is your experience with the impact of colors?
