Cooking Activity in the Classroom
Posted by PLB Blogger · 2 Comments
Cooking in the classroom is so much fun. Whether it’s for a classroom party, a science experiment, a fundraiser or a cooking session. At the same time it can be a complete disaster. Ingredients spilling on important papers, cuts, burns and other minor disasters. Here are some things that I’ve done that can make cooking in the classroom fun, safe and memorable.
It all starts with good organization- planning workstations, working out how much you need of every ingredient and what tools you can use. As you plan, work out ways in which you can make the process safe and injury-free. Help the students participate in the preparation- bringing ingredients, setting up the classroom, and of couse, cleaning up. Choose simple and fool-proof recipies. It’s really not fun if the final dish is not something everyone enjoys eating. Finally, make sure that you try the dish with the exact ingredients and tools that you plan to use in the classroom.
Have you done a cooking activity in your classrooms? What was your experience? Can you recommend a particular recipe for success?
