- Specially designed exercises can promote rapid strengthening and growth of neuronal connections, and thus improve skills like attention, memory and problem solving.
It’s Brain Awareness Week, and I am taking a moment to share with you these insights about the brain and learning. The aforementioned facts are related to “Neuroplasticity” – the ability of the brain to change in order to cope with higher learning demands. In other words, intelligence scores can be increased! The brain plays such an important role in learning, and it is our responsibility as teachers to understand it.
As we learn more about the brain, and how it works, we will be able to adapt our teaching practices to make them more effective. New research is helping us understand so many things about the brain, and this can call for a change in the way we look at education.
