Reaching Out

As I was doing my holiday shopping, I thought about how holidays so often tend to be about “ourselves” and making sure that we enjoy ourselves. In the chaos of the season, it takes effort to reach out to someone else. I’ve found often that giving time and energy to a cause that’s not selfish refreshes me instead of exhausting me. It may be as simple as donating to a good cause, or volunteering a day at a local shelter. I also recognize that as teachers we have special gifts of learning that we can give using our teaching skills to perhaps help someone with their spelling, teach someone something new, or help a grandchild with homework. When we choose to do this, we become role models to those that we reach and teach not only in the classroom, but outside of it too.
How can we use our skills as teachers to reach out during this holiday season?
