Check Out the New Blog Here’s my understanding of the best approaches regarding “How to Tell if it’s a Special Education of Language Issue” and it centers around the parent as expert concerning their child.

(1) Is the parent concerned about the child’s level of performance?

(2) How does this child compare to other children in the same family? at a comparable age?

(3) When assessing language development look at both the number of words a student knows/understands in BOTH languages: eg. English AND Spanish

So, the big take-aways are (1) trust the parent and (2) give “credit” for what the student knows and can do in their native language.
