What is a Learning Log?
Posted by PLB Blogger · Leave a Comment
A log is a type of journal that records reflections of a teacher’s own skill and learning development. A log not only documents what teachers have done, but also what they have learned and reflected upon. It is a compilation of personal notes and is unique to the author. There can be no right or wrong entry here.
An effective, yet simple way of practicing reflection is to set aside some time once every week to maintain a learning log. This log is similar to a portfolio or a diary but includes headings. The headings help the teacher record specific experiences and events and their reactions to these.
Logs encourage reflection in order to help teachers understand what happened and why. They may then formulate action plans for the future. One of the key features of a learning log is that it helps teachers establish what they have learned, how that information or skill is relevant to them, and how they may use it in the future. A log is very beneficial and may help educators reflect upon their own learning structure and development.
