Today, research  indicates that when used regularly to manage behaviors, punishment is  often accompanied by significant negative side effects. It is recommended to provide consistent consequences that TEACH expected behaviors rather than PUNISH misbehaviors and avoid any overuse of punishment as a disciplinary consequence.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">So, is punishment\u00a0the same as consequence? <strong>No<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p>Punishment is <strong>imposed on somebody for wrongdoing<\/strong>. It may or may not be\u00a0determined to be a consequence.<br \/>\nConsequences are <strong>corollary<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>What&#8217;s the difference between punishment and consequence? <\/em><strong>A fine line.<em> <\/em><\/strong>Here\u2019s an example:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p><em><strong>Behavior<\/strong>:  Fred hits\u00a0Barney&#8217;s car with a rock.
