class=\"wp-caption-text\">Warning Signs: Who abuses children?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When we know the warning signs of potential abuse, <span style=\"font-size: small;\">we may be able  to minimize or prevent abuse from happening. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cWarning sign\u201d is really just another way of saying \u201copportunity  for prevention\u201d \u2013 a chance for caring adults to recognize a possible risk and to  take action to protect children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While <strong>everyone should be given the  benefit of doubt regarding their intent<\/strong>, there are some behaviors by adults that  could indicate a person has less than good intentions regarding a child.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Following are some general warning signs of an individual who <em> may <\/em>be seeking or involved in a predatory or abusive relationship with a  child.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Discourages other adults from participating or monitoring  activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Wants to be alone with children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Prefers involvement with children more than with  adults. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Seeks opportunities or has\u00a0unsupervised access to  children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Thinks or acts as if the rules do not apply to them.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Uses bad language or tells dirty jokes to children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Shows children pornography.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Abuses alcohol or\u00a0drugs.<\/li>\n<li>Has an addiction to the interent (pornography and\/or cybersex).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Overly physical (eg. wrestling, tickling, hugging) with  other people&#8217;s children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Permits children to engage in activities the child&#8217;s parents  would not allow.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Gives gifts to kids, particularly without parental
