They are as follows.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Sustained Attention &#8211; This attention type enables a student to stay on a task for a long period of time. The attention of the student in this case does not move away from the task.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Selective Attention &#8211; This attention type enables a student to stay on task even when a distraction is present.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Divided Attention &#8211; This attention type allows a student to handle two or more tasks at one time. It lets the student pay attention to different tasks even as he or her multi-tasks.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In order to identify a particular attention type from among the three different types of attention, it is suggested that you watch for a student&#8217;s inability to:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">stay on a task for long periods of time, <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ignore distractions, or <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">multi-task.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>How do you help students overcome difficulties in the various types of attention?<\/div>\n<p><em><strong>From Professional Learning Board\u2019s online continuing education course for teachers: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/k12teacherstaffdevelopment.com\/tlb\/cognitive-skills-understanding-learning-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cognitive Skills &#8211; Understanding Learning Challenges<\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>  There are different types of attention that contribute to academic and occupational success.
