This abuse may even include labeling a child with names such as stupid, idiot or dummy. Acts that reject, belittle or ignore children, terrorize them or isolate them from others can also be considered emotionally abusive.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is important to keep an eye on the students in your classroom and recognize signs of emotional abuse in children.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">A child who sometimes shows the following signs of extreme behaviors may be a victim of emotional abuse. When considering whether or not a child is being abused, ask yourself &#8220;Is the child . . . &#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Acting age-inappropriately (too &#8220;adult-like&#8221; or &#8220;babyish&#8221;)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Having suicidal thoughts or attempting suicide?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Excessively passive or uncaring?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Overly compliant?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Taking blame for everything, even if not at fault?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Aggressive, defiant and\/or demanding?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Fearful of familiar people, places or things?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Inappropriate such as turning negatives into jokes or laughing when in pain?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Extreme in behavior \u2013 manically happy or very depressed?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Withdrawn \u2013 no verbal or physical communication with others?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Self-destructive (e.g. cutting oneself )?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Destructive or delinquent?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Compulsive with attention to detail?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Cruel to others or animals?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Vandalizing, stealing, cheating<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small\">, gambling, and\/or lying?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Rocking, thumb sucking, and\/or head banging?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Wetting or soiling one&#8217;s pants after an age when such behavior is inappropriate?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Using\/abusing drugs or alcohol?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Exhibiting <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small\">frequent stomachaches or headaches, or experiencing unexplained weight loss\/gain?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">Remember, emotional abuse often accompanies neglect, physical or sexual abuse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Have you known children who have been emotionally abused?
