    Course Description:<\/h4>\n

    Self-paced Professional Development Credit classes incorporate online content, quizzes, interactivities and a Course Action Plan you can put to use in your work environment. Learning takes place asynchronously, at your convenience, and may be completed over a period of 4 weeks. Note, teachers looking for graduate credits, please check with your issuing authority about whether it will accept these online teacher courses for graduate credit.<\/p>\n

    Protecting children is the role and responsibility of every adult. Be it in or outside of school, educators need to be aware of all red flags indicating a child is being abused. The course Child Abuse Prevention<\/em> tackles this very sensitive issue and aims to equip teachers with the essentials of recognizing and preventing abuse to maintain safe and secure learning environments. Every educator should be aware of the different signs, symptoms and indicators of suspected child abuse and this is the focus of SECTION A<\/strong>, Recognizing and Preventing Child Abuse.<\/em> The course highlights characteristics of abuse, as well as how an educator can respond. Bullying is a common issue that is seen in every classroom, school and playground. How do we respond to bullying or stop it? How do we help children who are on the receiving end and discipline the bullies? Learn more about this in SECTION B<\/strong>, Bullying: The Golden Rule Solution.<\/em> The third section of this course stresses on professional behaviors and ethical standards that teachers may adopt, that will help promote a safe environment for students to learn in. SECTION C,<\/strong> Ethics for Educational Professionals, <\/em>encourages teachers to promote policies and practices in schools, and provides guidance on implementing the same.<\/p>\n

    Objectives & Outcomes:<\/h4>\n

    As a result of successful participation in SECTION A, <\/em>Recognizing and Preventing Child Abuse,\u00a0<\/em>students should be able to:<\/p>\n

    • Understand 4 types of abuse.<\/li>\n
    • Identify signs of 4 types of abuse.<\/li>\n
    • Recognize how abuse can be prevented.<\/li>\n
    • Understand the process and importance of reporting abuse.<\/li>\n
    • Identify potential abusers.<\/li>\n
    • Create a safe learning environment.<\/li>\n
    • Understand how technology can be used in abusive situations.<\/li>\n
    • Report cases of child abuse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      As a result of successful participation in SECTION B, <\/em>Bullying: The Golden Rule Solution,\u00a0<\/em>students should be able to:<\/p>\n

      • Understand why and how bullying occurs.<\/li>\n
      • Understand how the victim can become a bully.<\/li>\n
      • Teach students to stay safe from cyberbullying.<\/li>\n
      • Cope with bullying at the workplace.<\/li>\n
      • Get equipped with strategies to stop the process of bullying.<\/li>\n
      • Teach students to prevent bullying.<\/li>\n
      • Teach students how to respond when they are being bullied.<\/li>\n
      • Respond constructively when a student complains about bullying.<\/li>\n
      • De-escalate a situation where you witness a physical attack or fight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        As a result of successful participation in SECTION C, <\/em>Ethics for Educational Professionals,\u00a0<\/em>students should be able to:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Gain knowledge in ethical schools of thought and ethical models.<\/li>\n
        • Identify themselves as a professional and recognize the need for professional behavior.<\/li>\n
        • Implement professional behavior in their relationships at school- including aspects of conversation, touch, personal space and eye contact.<\/li>\n
        • Set standards, or personal policies regarding interacting with students outside of the classroom, receiving gifts and other common ethical issues in teacher-student relationships.<\/li>\n
        • Identify the signs of a harmful professional relationship, and will be able to take steps to rectify the situation.<\/li>\n
        • Identify personal areas for growth in professional habits and traits.<\/li>\n
        • Maintain positive professional\u00a0relationships with students, parents and colleagues.<\/li>\n
        • Gain knowledge and confidence in implementing a school-wide program to maintain ethical standards by establishing an ethical code and\/or committee.<\/li>\n
        • Follow legal requirements in the area of student records.<\/li>\n
        • Follow ethical practices in the areas of conduct, assessment and planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
