How can I Help a Student with ADHD Learn to Plan?

Check Out the New Blog A student with ADHD often struggles to plan and may need your assistance.In order to help a student with ADHD learn how to plan, have the student write or draw the steps needed for any school procedure. For example, if the student has difficulty preparing to go home, have them write or draw a list of considerations:

Regarding homework assignments, what will I need?

  • Handout
  • Textbook
  • Notebook
  • Other utensils

What old work can come home or get thrown out?

What outerwear did I bring? Do I need it now?

What sports or activity equipment will I need?

Training studies have shown that most people who follow a written plan for about 4 weeks tend to follow it automatically. Training students in sequential expectation may seem like a lot of work, but in the end it is much faster than just hoping that the student will “straighten out” or master this skill on their own.
