Writing a Journal

Check Out the New Blog Teacher thinking in a classroomJournal writing is a practice that’s getting forgotten in the midst of blogging, tweeting and Facebook likes. While writing a blog can be beneficial, not everyone wants to share their deepest thoughts with the world.

In addition to being a record of what we’ve done, a joural acts as a way of collecting precious memories. This can be a strong tool for teachers to reflect on teaching. Writing down a few notes about our day, the instructional strategies that work, and the teaching strategies that don’t work can help us to consider how we can do better, improve, learn and grow.

Growth comes through reflection, and writing a journal is a great way to begin this process.

Many of you have written journals, but might not be doing so any longer or may not have written a journal related to teaching. This week, I encourage you to write a journal (for just a week) about your teaching experiences.

How has journal writing helped you develop as an effective educator?
